Director's Message
Are you looking for a Bible Study?
There are so many wonderful resources available today......each one offers something a little different.
What makes Community Bible Study Canada unique?
In a word “DISCOVERY” let me explain....
Children learn best as they play and discover what they can do, how things work, the things that are delightful, or painful choices. What they personally experience they tend to remember. Remember learning how to ride a bicycle? It was a process beginning perhaps with training wheels...then your parent running along side holding you up, encouraging you..and finally, they let go and you were riding on your own! And you have never forgotten how to ride a bike.
Adults also tend to learn more quickly when they personally discover (dis-cover, un-cover) Truth. Hearing someone tell them what they have learned about God from the study of his Word is wonderful and we can learn much, but it is not the same as hearing God speak personally to them as they read and study His Word. Imagine having someone give you a message from a dear one – compare that to receiving a personal letter from your dear one. Which one has the most impact?
The method of study we use in CBS is designed to help each person discover that the Scriptures are “alive, active, sharper than a two edged sword.” Hebrews 4:12 They learn from first-hand experience the JOY of His presence as they hear His voice.
How does this happen? Each lesson has Home Study Questions. They are set up so there are a few to do each day. This helps develop a habit of spending time in God’s Word daily. Core Group discussion is the heart of the CBS study method. It is in the Core Group that the process of discovery is supported and encouraged. There is a time of discussion of the homework that each Core Group member has done- an opportunity for them to share what God has revealed to THEM as they sat with Him during the week. The Core Leader is trained to facilitate the discussion, and NOT teach. Why would the Core Group members share what they have learned if the leader has all the answers? What is exciting is to see members discover that God speaks to them and He can use them to bless and edify others. Often He gives an insight to one person that no one else has seen. Together, as they share their discoveries, they get the complete picture. Personal discovery is deeply meaningful and impacting. We can learn much from hearing others teach us what they have discovered, but when we ourselves discover Truth, we do not easily forget. “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind..” Romans 12: 1
There is MUCH more I could say about why I believe you should study with CBS Canada...but I would much rather invite you to DISCOVER it for yourself!
Most Sincerely,
Sue Demmons
