Devotional Thought

March 2010
Prepared by a Class Prayer Chair

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

“’For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the Lord.” Isaiah 55:8

Is there ever anything too small or too big in our own lives or the life of CBS not to bring to God? Do you ever feel like your prayers are falling on deaf ears? Do you ever wonder if there is some “magic” formula to unlocking the gates of heaven and having all your prayers answered?

I think I have the answer to the first question – “no”. I know the Father cares deeply about the minute details of each of our lives and the really big “stuff” too. Several years back I recall having a conversation with a lady who was appalled that I would bother God with the “little things”. ‘How could I pray to God asking him to find me a parking spot at the local shopping mall? God was too busy to bother with something so trivial’. Thankfully, I have to say that God still rides “shot gun” with me and has not yet failed to provide me someplace to park my van. (You should see His work on Downtown parallel parking spots!) My days are filled with prayers sent up to heaven in moments of frustration, trial, confusion, sadness, and joy. How blessed we are to have a Lord that walks by our sides all the days of our lives!

I know too that God is in the big “stuff”. Here I have to watch that I don’t place limits on Him. After all, He is God and He can do things any way He wants. Those are the times I have to stand back in awe at how great and powerful God is. Praying for CBS has given me a few of these opportunities. Last year one of our prayer requests involved growing our Home Schooling Class. We wanted more children. God answered our prayer in a way that went far beyond anything I could ever have imagined. I sent the prayer request off to the National Prayer Chair to be placed on the monthly calendar and in less than 2 hours God gave us our answer- not as I would have imagined. I was looking for a couple of local Moms with their kids who would hear about our program from someone in our class. God had other plans. He sent us a family with 4 home schooled children all the way from Denver Colorado, USA. What a mighty God we serve!

I don’t yet have complete answers to the other 2 questions I posed at the start. I know the more I pray and listen to the prayer experiences of others, the more I realize as the song says “My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do.”  My prayer for each of you is that you will not be afraid to bring anything to God in prayer- no matter how small or big. May each of you have the courage to share your prayer experiences with those around you and may we all sing the Lord’s praises for what He has done and what He has yet to do.
